About ict@innovation
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) represent key elements for economic and social development in Sub-Sahara Africa in sectors such as education, administration and business development. However, the region lacks sustainable local ICT service providers, ICT-driven businesses, IT-experts, and innovation managers, particularly in the promising field of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). Therefore, InWEnt's new programme ict@innovation builds capacities in African ICT small/medium enterprises to make a business with FOSS. Through enhanced knowledge on FOSS business models in African contexts, FOSS technical certifications, and practical skills in FOSS application development ict@innovation aims to encourage the growth of Southern and East African ICT industries.

It@foss, therefore, makes a contribution by stimulating the economies of countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines. Additionally, FOSS applications and business solutions are used as a development motor contributing to a number of other programs coordinated through it@inwent in Africa and Asia, thus aiding the German government to realize its development goals. This initiative has been commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and development (BMZ).
